Suzukakedai Campus was first named as “Nagatsuta Campus” when Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Science and Engineering launched in 1975, subsequently changed to “Suzukakedai Campus” in 2001.

High school students and supervisors from Indonesi

High school students and supervisors from Indonesia🇮🇩 , Thailand 🇹🇭and Vietnam 🇻🇳 visited Science Tokyo on 21 May as part of SAKURA 🌸 Science High School Program organized by Japan Science and Technology (JST).

Prof Nozaki (School of Engineering) gave an overview of Institute, followed by the program overview of GSEP, our English taught bachelor course by Associate Prof Varquez & Specially Appointed Associate Prof Boonyubol.

During lunch time 🍜our energetic, powerful and thoughtful Science Tokyo students 💪🇯🇵🇹🇭🇮🇩🇮🇳 helped us run the program!! They took students for lunch and conducted a mini-campus tour.

The afternoon session started with a lecture from Prof Suekane (School of Engineering) on “Energy Conversion and Thermophysics 🔥”. The group then visited the Collaboration Center for Design and Manufacturing 🛠️⚙️ - Research Assistants walked through the center showing how these machines and electrical tools are used by Science Tokyo students.

The last program was a group talk moderated by Science Tokyo students from respective countries 🇮🇩🇹🇭🇻🇳 They shared their journey here as well as how they spend their campus life.

It was nice to have you all at our campus💕

It wasn’t until about a year after I arrived in Japan that I decided to start a part-time job. At that time, my main goal was simply to earn some extra money 💴 to fund my travels around Japan, not realizing the broader benefits that working could offer…These experiences have turned out to be more than just a way to make money… one of the most valuable things I gained was a significant improvement in my Japanese language skills 👍🏻… Another important thing I gained from working part-time – and something I believe is especially valuable for international students – is the sense of community👭👫

ADB-JSP Scholar alumni Mellinda 🇵🇭 shares her stories during her days at Science Tokyo 🎓🏫

✨I first came to Japan 🇯🇵 in 2016 as an undergraduate exchange student in Tokyo Tech. I fell in love 🥰 with Japan that year, and I left the program determined to return.

Thanks to the ADB-JSP scholarship, I have been able to come back to the same university and laboratory to do research in a field that I deeply love 💕

The past two years in Japan have been faced with difficulties, but they were also precious years of growth in both my research and personal life. I was involved in a study that allowed me to collaborate with scientists from different fields—for the love of microbes 🦠 and isotopes! I worked in a laboratory where the possibilities of asking questions about the Earth 🌏 are endless, and the whole experience strengthened my dream of one day becoming a “marine scientist 👩‍🔬 for the people” in my beloved Philippines..

I am sure that I will be leaving Japan this time with an even greater admiration for this country and its people, more than I had the first time I left in 2017. Thank you so much to the ADB staff at Tokyo Tech, whose patience and dedication to the scholars has guided us in all the two years; and to Abe-sensei, whose firm support has allowed me to finish the program, through and through, with funding.

I will go back to the Philippines bringing with me all the lessons (in science and life) that I have learned in the past two years. I am thankful 🥹
