Hello everyone, my name is Diana, and I am a first-year PhD student in the School of Life Science and Technology at Science Tokyo. My research focuses on understanding how fungi develop resistance to treatments and how we can better address antifungal resistance.
Growing up, I always knew two things about myself: I wanted to become a scientist, and I wanted to live abroad. I started working towards the first goal through my studies in life sciences, and in 2023 I pursued the second by coming to Japan through the MEXT scholarship. Now, as a doctoral student, I am continuing both journeys at the same time.
Living and studying in Japan has challenged me in many ways, but it has also helped me grow. Adjusting to a new culture and academic environment has strengthened my independence, adaptability, and confidence. Being part of an international research community has also shown me how valuable diverse perspectives are in science. Outside the lab, I enjoy hiking, traveling, and spending quiet time reading or watching films. I hope to share an honest and relatable perspective on life at Science Tokyo.
